Yesterday I had a quiet day at home and did laundry and other chores. I finished reading the book that Vanessa gave me some time ago: In the Company of the Courtesan by Sarah Dunant. It was set in the sixteenth century in Rome and Venice. I thought it gave a good feel for what life was like there and then. I also started reading this week's The Economist.
In the evening I watched a DVD of the movie The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, which is based on the book by Carson McCullers. I had heard of this book but never read it. Likewise I had never seen the movie. It was made in the sixties so Alan Arkin was very young. Anyway, it was very well done and I give it four stars.
