Yesterday I ordered a new book for my Kindle. It was the last book of the Cave Bear series. It has been a long time since I read the previous one, so I am glad to be able to finish the series. Last night I watched the Sharks play the first game of their Stanley Cup series with the Detroit Redwings. Detroit scored in the first period, and neither team scored in the second period. Joe Pavelski tied the game in the third period and sent the game into overtime. A rookie who had just been brought up from the farm team then scored in overtime to win the game for the Sharks. It was their fourth overtime win in the playoffs this year. Josh called me after the game. He was at the game with Kermit, and was very happy with the result. He said he would come over and watch tomorrow’s game with me at noon tomorrow. I had a good sleep last night and feel good today.

I thought I had an appointment with my family doctor today, but for some reason I did not, so I made one for a week from today. I originally had one with my urologist today, but his nurse called and changed it to next Monday (2 May). Last night I watched a DVD of the movie How Do You Know. It had a good cast, but the premise was so lame I thought it was silly. I give it 2.7 stars. I am feeling good again today.

Yesterday I took a shower and did laundry. I also did my week’s shopping at Safeway. In the late afternoon I had dinner at El Cerrito with Larry and Judi. In the evening I watched a Netflix DVD of the movie Tron: Legacy. It was OK, but I was not too impressed by it, so I give it only 2.7 stars. I have heard on TV that the Sharks will play Detroit tomorrow (Friday). If Josh does not get tickets for the game, he will probably come watch with me. I feel good today.

Yesterday I read Science and watched PBS shows on TV. In the Evening I watched a DVD of the movie Never Let Me Go. It was a science fiction based on a book by a Japanese writer. It was about raising children in a school so they could be used as organ donors. I thought it was too implausible to suspend disbelief. I give it 2.8 stars. I feel good again today.

Joshua brought in pizza and watched the Sharks game with me. The Sharks never trailed, but every time the Kings tied the score Josh would go crazy. I was afraid the neighbors would complain. It all turned out well. Joe Thornton scored the winning goal in overtime, so the Sharks won the series 4-2 and will move on to the next round. Three of the Sharks victories came in overtime. I had a good sleep last night, so I feel good again today.

Yesterday I drove to San Mateo to have Easter brunch. Vanessa’s brother was there with his two kids (his wife was home sick) and Maureen was there with Gary. I was able to pass on a three months supply of The Economist to Maureen. The kids had a great time hunting Easter eggs and Julian and Vanessa had prepared great food. It was the first time I had driven that far, but the traffic was light and I had no trouble. In the late afternoon Jason picked me up and drove me to Umbach’s for Easter dinner, so I ate out twice in one day. Jason and his family gave me a ride home in time to watch the new episode of Upstairs Downstairs. I feel good again today.

Yesterday afternoon Jason picked me up and drove me to Los Gatos.for dinner. Marty and Kathleen and Ryan were in town and were there too along with Jamie and Chelsea and the twins. Joshua showed up too. After dinner we watched the Sharks lose to LA. They gave up three quick goals in the first period and lost the game 1-3. They now lead the series 3-2 and play Monday night in LA. I feel good today.

I just got back from meeting Helen and Jim at Starbucks. It is the first time I have been up to meeting them there since I went into the hospital. It is good to be back in my old routine again. I don’t drink coffee anymore, so I had a hot chocolate. For some reason The Economist came on Thursday this week instead of Friday, so I finished reading it last night after the Friday PBS shows were over.

Yesterday Guy Plumbing came over and checked out the leak under my kitchen sink. He is back this morning with a new faucet to fix the problem. I hope it works OK. Last night Joshua came over to watch the Sharks game with me. He was late coming because my cable system was not working until just before the game started, and I thought I was going to have to listen to the game on the radio. Anyway, it was a great game that the Sharks won 6-3. They now lead the series 3-1. If they beat LA again on Saturday night at home in San Jose, they will move on to the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. I am feeling good today.

I just got back from Sharon Heights where I went to the bank and did my week’s Safeway shopping. I threw up a little bit when I got back, but my stomach was mostly empty, so I was able to contain it. Last night Josh brought in Boston Market food for us and watched the Sharks 3rd playoff game against LA. We were pretty discouraged when they fell behind 0-4, but we were thrilled when they came back and won the game in overtime 6-5 when Setoguchi scored. They now lead the series 2-1 and will play the fourth game in LA tomorrow night. In spite of throwing up, I feel pretty good today.

Yesterday I had a quiet day at home. In the evening I watched 60 Minutes, a Nature program on PBS about the big fire in Australia last year, and the next episode of Upstairs Downstairs. Now that spring is here it is getting warmer and the trees are mostly leafed out now. I expect that the rainy season is now mostly over. I continue to feel better.

Yesterday Vanessa and Annie drove me down to Los Gatos to visit with Jason, Susan, and the girls. Julian and Beech were skiing at Bear Valley. Jason was weeding his backyard and Annie and Ellie played up a storm with girl play. We came back at 12:30 PM so Vanessa could take Annie to Peter Pan. In the afternoon I finished reading The Economist. In the evening Jason came over and watched the Sharks game with me. They were terrible and lost 0-4 to the LA Kings, so the series is now tied 1-1. It was a downer to see them play so poorly.

Yesterday the nurse came by and checked me out and said I was doing well enough that I did not need her to come by anymore. So I am certified as getting better by the professionals. Last night I watched the Friday PBS shows and got started reading the new Economist. Charlie Rose had three chefs who have written books on his show, so I turned in early.

Yesterday I went with Vanessa and Annie to Stanford Plaza to walk around and look at the flowers and stores. We had Jamba Juice for a snack and a nice lunch at at one of the restaurants. In the evening I watched the Sharks beat the LA Kings in the first game of the Stanley Cup playoffs. It was a close hard fought game. The Sharks never trailed, but it was well into overtime before Pavelski scored and won the game for them 3-2. Jason and Joshua were at the game, so they saw a good one. Game two will be Saturday night.

Yesterday was the last day for my caregivers. Lily still needs to stop by to pick up her check, but I gave Nisi her check yesterday. I took my 9th Labetalol this morning, counting from when I resumed taking them last week. My blood pressure this morning was 149/81, which is a little high. I am beginning to wonder if I should take two pills at a time twice a day like the instructions say on the package.
Last night I watched a Nature show about Cuba on PBS and the watched the new Upstairs Downstairs on Masterpiece Theater. The Sharks are scheduled to start the playoffs on Thursday against Los Angeles.

Last night I had dinner and a movie with Larry Morrill. Judi is out of town for meetings in Washington. We saw Hanna, a thriller about a little girl with altered DNA and trained to be a perfect soldier/killer. It was too preposterous to suspend disbelief, so I give it only 2 stars. I took my 7th Labetalol this morning since I resumed the medication, and so far so good.

Yesterday I had lunch at The Dutch Goose with Ginny and Jim. We all loved the cheeseburgers and French fries. After lunch we came back to my condo and watched a DVD of LA Confidential. It had been a while since I had seen it, and neither of them had seen it, so it was fun to watch. I choose it because they requested a movie with lots of action and violence. In the evening I watched the Sharks lose to Phoenix 2-3. They played poorly in the first period and tried to catch up in the third period, but it was too late. They play them again tonight in San Jose for the last game before the playoffs.

Yesterday I finished reading Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua. I had seen her on Charlie Rose and was interested that most people had gotten the wrong message from what they had heard about her book. After reading her book, I agree that she is saying that kids should be free to choose for themselves, that she was wrong and learned her lesson. I also watched a DVD of the movie The War Bride. It was about a war bride who got sent to Canada with her baby by a Canadian soldier, and the difficulty she had adjusting to the change in culture. I give it 3.7 stars.
I have resumed taking the Labetalol. It has only been one day, but so far so good.

Joshua came over last night with fish and chips from Cooks and watched the Sharks game with me against the Ducks. They lost 2-5, so it was not a good game. Because they have already clinched their Division, I guess they had a let down. They have only two more games before the playoffs start. We also watched some of the Warriors game against LA. For the first time in a long time, the Warriors beat the Lakers.

Yesterday my doctor, Sherry Huang, called me back and sent a prescription to CVS for more Protonix. She also asked me to increase my blood pressure cuff measurements to three times a day and to send her an email with a copy of my computer file with the results. She agreed that I should hold off on continuing my Labetalol for a few days.
In the evening I watched a DVD of the movie Traitor, in which Don Chetle plays a Muslim US soldier who goes underground to infiltrate a global terrorist group. I give it three stars.

Yesterday Ginny and Jim came over after lunch and had a nice visit. In the evening Larry and Judi picked me up at 6 PM and took me to The Fish Market to join Ron and Marci for dinner, after which we went to the movie Jane Eyre. Those Bronte sisters sure wrote gloomy stories.
I have tried to attach the file for my health log. I am not sure it will work, but it is a try. I appreciate your concerns about me, but I have to try my best to survive. I will call my doctor this morning and request a refill of my Protonics prescription. I will have to leave a message for her nurse. I never get to talk to the doctor except at appointments.

Nisi worked all day trying to scrub the spots out of the carpet. It looks pretty good now, but we have to wait to see if the spots wick back up from below. I watched the Stanford women final four basketball game yesterday. They lost by one point after leading for most of the game. It was like the pros. The team that Makes the last shot wins. Liz persuaded me to take the Labetalol pills twice a day, so by last night I had taken four. They made me burp foul smelling and tasting gas, and then gave me diarrhea, which lasted until 3 AM, and causes me to have blood in my urine. With all due respect to Liz and my doctor who persuaded me to take these pills, I am going to stop them for a while, at least until I get better. My doctor takes Mondays off, and I did not feel like trying to explain things to he substitute’s nurse, so I will wait to talk to my doctor tomorrow. I have started filling in my health log on the computer.

Liz Ethan, and Bill stayed here last night. Julian and Vanessa and their kids joined us at Ten Fu for dinner. Jamie and Ginny and Jim stopped at Ten Fu after Jamie picked them up at the airport to say Hi. Ginny and Jim will be here for a week, so I will see them again. Liz, Bill, Ethan, and Josh had breakfast with me at El Cerrito this morning. We got back in time for them to meet Nisi before they left for the airport.
The nurse came by to check me this morning at !0:30 AM. I tried to show her the Excel spreadsheet Ethan made for my Medical log, but I could not make it bring up the data that we finally saw last night. I will talk to Ethan when he gets home. If necessagy I will create a new spreadsheet myself. I hate it wen computers don’t do what the should.
